How to create a strong password

Modified on Fri, 24 May at 10:44 AM

It's important to keep your Travelnest account secure. Here are some helpful tips to help you create a strong password, and to ensure the security of your account is protected.

Never share your password with other people

It should be a given, but always keep your passwords to yourself. Never share them with friends, family or colleagues, and never write them down anywhere.

Don't use the same password for everything

Don't be tempted to use exactly the same password for all your accounts. This makes it really easy for hackers to gain access to everything. Instead, mix it up and use different passwords for each website or service you use. Then, if one website is breached by hackers, your other accounts will remain safe.

Use a 'pass phrase'

Help keep your passwords memorable by using a passphrase. This is a relatively long phrase made up of seemingly random words. Here's an example that uses upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters:

Include numbers, letters and special characters

Using at least one of each character type will make it increasingly harder for hackers to guess your password. Use letters in both uppercase and lowercase e.g. AaBbCc, random numbers e.g. 3412 (don't use 1234 as this is really easy to guess) and special characters such as !@*&£$

Make your password at least 12 characters long

The longer your password is, the better. Similarly, the more characters you include, the harder it becomes for hackers to guess your password.

Consider using a password manager tool

Services such as LastPass or KeePass can help you generate long, secure passwords, and also safely store them for you meaning you never have to remember what the passwords are.

Don’t post it in plain sight

We all know somebody who has posted their password on their monitor with a sticky note or on their notepad. Don't be tempted to do this. If you absolutely must write passwords down, hide them somewhere no one can find them.
