How to cancel a booking on Travelnest

Modified on Mon, 20 Jan at 4:48 PM

If you need to cancel a booking, here’s a step-by-step guide. However, before proceeding, it’s essential to understand the potential impact on your listing, your guest, and your account. Cancellations should always be a last resort.

Things to consider before cancelling a booking

Impact on your property listing visibility

  • Cancelling bookings can lower your property’s ranking on booking websites, making it harder for potential guests to find your listing.
  • Frequent cancellations may lead to temporary suspension of your listing on some channels or even permanent removal.
  • Maintaining a consistent hosting record helps secure a stronger presence across booking platforms.

Impact on your guest

  • A cancellation can negatively affect the guest experience, potentially leading to complaints, bad reviews, or disputes with the booking channel.
  • Whenever possible, we recommend offering an alternative solution to the guest, such as rescheduling or arranging a comparable stay elsewhere.

Responsibility for calendar management

  • If you accept bookings outside of Travelnest, it’s your responsibility to keep your calendar up to date. This ensures double bookings or unavailable dates don’t result in cancellations.
  • Syncing your calendar with tools like iCal or manually blocking unavailable dates can prevent issues. Learn how to sync your calendar here.

Cancellation fees

  • A flat cancellation fee of £160 applies to each cancelled booking (Excluding VAT, charged in your account’s currency).
  • This fee is deducted from future bookings. If there are no future bookings, an invoice will be issued, requiring payment within 7 days.
  • Unlike other platforms, Travelnest does not pass on unpredictable relocation fees from booking websites to you.

Steps to cancel a booking

  1. Log in and access the booking details page
Open your Travelnest account on desktop or mobile. Navigate to the Bookings section and select the relevant booking.
  2. Start the cancellation process
Press the Cancel this booking button to begin.
  3. Provide a reason for cancellation
Select the reason for the cancellation from the available options and provide detailed reasons for requesting this cancellation. Include steps you’ve taken to resolve the issue directly with the guest or efforts to help them find alternative accommodation. Ensure possible solutions have been explored before proceeding.
  4. Confirm cancellation
Review the cancellation, the cancellation fee, the impact on your listing, and the irreversibility of the action. If you are certain, press Confirm cancellation. If not, choose Keep this booking.
  5. Booking cancellation is underway
Once confirmed, the request will be processed, and you’ll receive a confirmation email within 48 hours.
